I like Oreo ice cream it’s delicious. Oddly enough I find just the cookies not tasty at all. They are so incredibly dry. I think Oreo owes its success to the fact that the cookies work so well if you incorporated them into a dish. Such as ice cream, cake or cheesecake. It doesn’t matter that they are dry and boring on their own. This is a recipe for Oreo ice cream, they are delicious in ice cream.

Oreo ice cream

Ingredients for 1 liter Oreo ice cream:
  • 450 ml of cream
  • 450 ml of whole milk
  • 2 vanilla pods
  • 120 grams sugar
  • 6 egg yolks (large)
  • 1 pack of Oreo cookies

 Instructions:

Cut the vanilla pods in half, scrape the vanilla out of the pods with a teaspoon. Pour the milk into a pan, add the vanilla including the empty pods. Bring the milk to a boil, turn off the heat and put the lid on the pan. Leave the pan closed on the furnace for twenty minutes. Meanwhile, split the eggs, insert the yolks in your mixing bowl together with the sugar. Mix until it reaches a pale color.

After twenty minutes bring the milk back to a boil (remove the vanilla pods) pour the hot milk slowly into the sugar and egg mixture. Mix on a low speed until everything is incorporated. Pour the mixture into a clean pan. Keep stirring and don’t let it boil or it will curdle. Cook for about 8-10 minutes over a very low heat until it thickens and lightly coats the back of a wooden spoon or silicone spatula. Take your time making the custard. Pour it into a bowl and let it cool down on the kitchen counter. When it is cool enough cover the bowl and place the covered bowl into the refrigerator until it is cold.

Whisk the cream into the custard until it’s nice and smooth. Pour the mixture into your ice machine (time depends on your ice machine, see your manual) and turn it on. Under while, crush about eight cookies, add this to your ice cream when it’s almost done and ready to be placed into the freezer. Put the ice into a container and close the lit. Place the container into the freezer until you are ready to use it.

If you don’t own an ice machine, follow all instructions. Instead of putting the mixture into an ice machine, pour it directly into a container and close the lit. Place it in the freezer. Stir the mixture every twenty minutes to prevent ice crystals. Don’t forget to add the crushed cookies before it’s too hard. Did you forget, don’t worry just eat all the cookies because you are sad you forgot. Later on, enjoy your homemade vanilla ice cream.

Enjoy your Oreo ice cream.
